Pastor Bill:

[0:00] Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 50 of the Berean Manifesto; Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian. I'm glad you're here. we record this podcast live on Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Central Standard Time. So the the title of tonight is Eschatology is Now. And if you don't know what eschatology is, eschatology is the study of the end times, and Heaven and Hell and eternal dwelling that's what eschatology is all right and so basically what we're going to focus on tonight is we're going to talk about how, eschatology shouldn't be what it currently is, right so you got a lot of people that are preaching on the end times a lot of people that are preaching on all this fear-mongering stuff a lot of people that are saying you know the end is nigh and while yes I agree things are, crazy out there, constantly everyday looks more and more like things that are in prophecy books are coming true and things like that. We need to make sure that we're not spreading fear. To Christian and unbeliever alike with what we are speaking and preaching and and how we're doing things. So we are if you want to write down all the places that we're going to hit in scripture now's the time to do that write it down type it down.

Pastor Newms:

[1:47] Second wait one second Biggs what do you mean you're getting a repeat? And groggy what do you mean new booster I'm confused chat has confused me. Now that I've asked the questions that waiting for them to speak you can list out the verses now or you can type them into chat if you'd like oh he got the booster shot.

Pastor Bill:

[2:10] Oh I can life type them in the chat okay so we will be in first, Thessalonians chapter 4 specifically in the verses of 9 through 12. We will be spending some time in James chapter 1 verses 19 through 27. We will be in Titus Chapter 2 verses 11 through 14. And we will be in 1 Peter 3 versus 13 through 17 and then you go and put those into the chat so if you're watching on Facebook, Twitch, or YouTube you should see those popping up, hopefully in the chat there our bot is supposed to work both ways some of those channels might not be picking that up but they're supposed to be and if you have anything you want to contribute as we're moving along and you're joining us live on Twitch, Facebook, or YouTube then you can just type right there on the comment section and I will, see those my wife watches through YouTube and chats and comments we've got most of our people watch Twitch.

Pastor Newms:

[3:31] I don't think she is.

Pastor Bill:

[3:33] You don't think she's watching through YouTube.

Pastor Newms:

[3:36] She don't which she right there.

Pastor Bill:

[3:38] It's going to return oh yes she joined Twitter this week yeah so that I guess this week she's watching on Twitch, in the past she's.

Pastor Newms:

[3:45] Which I'm fine with.

Pastor Bill:

[3:46] And she's I know it builds the the viewer numbers which is good it gives us more standing with church so we can get the message out further, um in the past she's watched on YouTube and when she has commented it's come through on to the Discord server because of the Restream Bot that we that we're running with.

Pastor Newms:

[4:03] When I did just check it is going out. And Groggy it looks like what Groggy means is he is giving the booster since he works at a pharmacy, and so he's tired that would be why he hasn't responded to my Discord messages in two days because he's busy.

Pastor Bill:

[4:24] Right he's busy getting booster OK so let's start we're going to start in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4. And I should have had that one queued in my Bible since that was the first one we were going to read but I. Forgot to queue it and my Bible is cute to 1st Peter chapter 3 instead I'm going to keep my finger there.  1 Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 9 through 12 so our Focus tonight. Eschatology is a thing and it's the thing that we're supposed to be doing because I'm going to tell you it is eschatology just a thing you should be doing you should be looking forward to a time should be looking forward to Eternity should be looking for you know it's not something you can ignore but what we're going to be doing tonight is we're going to be taking a look at eschatology and I'm going to give you, the way I believe that you should be approaching eschatology okay and this is. I don't know how to explain it beyond that but let's just get started first Thessalonians chapter 4 we're starting in verse 9. About brotherly love you don't need me to write to you because you yourselves are taught by God to love one another in fact you are doing this toward all the brothers and sisters in the entire region of Macedonia, but we encourage you brothers and sisters to do this even more so even more than loving fellow believers. Paul saying I encourage you this thing that I'm about to say even more importantly than loving your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. To seek to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your own hands as we commanded you so that you may behave properly in the presence of Outsiders and not be dependent on anyone, right so our first point that I want to make on, eschatology and thinking about the end times and thinking about eternity is be quiet. Mind your own business that's Point number one. And that's straight out of first Thessalonians even more important than loving other believers. Is that you be quiet and you mind your own business so that you're not out on the street corners. In the presence of Outsiders behaving improperly. So that you're not out there saying you're all Senators you're all going to go to hell so that you're not out there acting a fool and making the church look silly okay that's Point number one. Mind your own business and be quiet.

Pastor Newms:

[7:41] That is your first point yes.

Pastor Bill:

[7:45] That is my first point. And then we're going to tie this all together so in the end we're going to have a more comprehensive look at well yes you're going to mind your own business be quiet but there's more to it and we're going to move forward from here you know into what there is more to it.

Pastor Newms:

[8:00] Get the points out of the way and then discuss it.

Pastor Bill:

[8:03] Why were you at the points out of the way and then we'll go back and we'll talk about what we're actually talking about here number to James chapter 1 verses 19 through 27. Of course I don't and my little red book Mark thing, into the scriptures earlier and somehow it's just now flopping the wind out here, it fell out so now it's not marking the two spot that I had in marking our James chapter 1 verses 19 through 27. My dear brothers and sisters understand this added want to should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger right be quiet mind your own business is that kind of what are you saying here.

Pastor Newms:

[8:56] A little.

Pastor Bill:

[8:57] For human anger does not accomplish God's righteousness therefore, ridding yourself of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent humbly receive the implanted word which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving yourself. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer he is like someone looking at his own face in a mirror for he looks at himself goes away and immediately forgets what kind of person he was. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works, this person shall be blessed in what he does. If anyone thinks he is religious without controlling his done right so you're not being quiet and not minding your own business but you think you're doing God's work. His religion is useless and he deceives himself pure and undefiled religion before God, the father is this, to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained from the world now, you I think James was specifically talking about just orphans and just widows no but I do believe that the people he was writing to. In their culture they would have understood that these are areas that they've been neglecting that needed to be taken care of, they were neglecting the widows they were neglecting the orphans and he wasn't saying taking care of Orphans and widows is the only work of God,

because obviously, getting water to people in places where they don't have water that's the work of God getting food to people that are living on the street and can't feed themselves that's a work of God. So he's not excluding every other service from being worked as God but he's highlighting these areas where. The people in his writing to have failed in this specific area Okay so Point number two, be a doer of the word so one be quiet in mind your own business, to be a doer of the word and what I mean by being a doer of the word is in your own life do the word in your own life if you believe, X Y and Z our sins then your own life you avoid doing X Y & Z if you believe that a B and C are services to God in your own life then do a b and c, in your own life that's being a doer of the word is your own life all right now we're getting description number three, Titus Chapter 2 Titus gotta find Titus.

Pastor Newms:

[12:13] Got to try really hard not to flip pass Titus.

Pastor Bill:

[12:16] I know.

Pastor Newms:

[12:18] That's one of those it's really easy to just fly past and you're like.

Pastor Bill:

[12:21] Really is like what where'd you go Titus Titus where is Titus other day.

Pastor Newms:

[12:27] Timothy and Philemon.

Pastor Bill:

[12:30] A couple more that are easy to miss well not Timothy so much for filename and yeah Philemon everyone say it, Titus Chapter 2 verses 11 through 14 all right, for the grace of God has appeared bringing salvation for all people, instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible righteous and godly way in the present age, while we wait for the Blessed hope the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, he gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people for his own possession eager,

to do good works Proclaim these things, encourage and rebuke with all authority let no one disregard you I added verse 15 on the end there okay so that's Point number three is, be eager to do good works all right so we gotta be quiet mind our own business alright take care of our own house. Make sure that's all taken care of keep your head down be a doer of the word and our own life you know carry out the word in your own life and number three, be eager to do good works, be eager to volunteer to go out and take care of homeless and orphans and widows be eager to find it time to go out and make sure that, people living in villages in Africa have access to clean water and clean places to you know, take care of their business there's this one company that sells this this neat little, potted thing and basically they bury it and it becomes the subject tank and then when it's full they cap it over and then there's actually a tree seed in the bottom of it and it becomes a tree and so it's just really neat thing knit really neat you know septic alternative for villages to use because not only does it give them a place to have clean sewage control but then when they filled it up, it's also going to give a tree that's been going to give wood and shade until they make it into wood and possibly give them fruit from a tree, so things like this you know look like look for things like this to do good works all right now number 4 we are going to first Peter. And then over hitting these fast but we're going to you know we just want to hit them and then we want to have discussion, and because we want to overall idea not just debating one piece back and forth we want to see how they work together. Um First Peter chapter 3 verses 13 through 17 that right first be almond second Peter I was like that doesn't look right. Are what you eat you start making those little noises.

Pastor Newms:

[15:33] Now I might have just launched something that might or might not have started a little bit of sound in between you reading because until you press the green button it plays the Star Trek theme. So it and I was like hoops, yeah anyway.

Pastor Bill:

[15:57] So we are in First Peter.

Pastor Newms:

[15:58] Yep first Peter.

Pastor Bill:

[16:00] Chapter 3 verse 13. Who then will harm you if you are devoted to what is good but even if you should suffer for righteousness you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear or be intimidated, but in your hearts regard Christ the lord as holy ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. And I said we're going with you through verse 17 yet do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience so that when you are accused those who disparage your Good Conduct in Christ will be put to shame, for it is better to suffer for doing good if that should be God's will then for doing evil. It's a point number one that I wanted to make was be quiet and mind your own business, and I've talked about that verse in the past where when I first encountered that verse it hurt me I was like but I'm supposed to be,

emissions the guy I'm supposed to be going out and spreading the gospel I'm supposed to be going out and using my voice to change the world because I misunderstood what it was saying, be quiet and mind your own business isn't advice to take care of your own house first, take care of your own business first take care of your own health first so that you can be a good servant of the Gods. Number two was be a doer of the word and your own life, apply the word to your life let it change you let it inform you let it make you who you are from a day-to-day basis point number 3. Be eager to do good works so always be looking for that way that you can serve and that way that you can bring like to people's lives and that way that you can better the world around you and number four, be ready to share hope and what did Paul tell us our Hope was.

Our Hope was looking forward to the return of the Lord and The Eternity that we're going to spend with him. So when we talk about eschatology you know the study of n times the study of Eternity I believe this should be our Focus. I am going to do my best to be quiet and get my house in order. Apply the word to my life so that I start to look like the word of God. I'm going to be eager to do good works so that I'm not just a talking head I'm not just oh yeah that's that guy that talks about the gospel but leaves people unfed and cold in the streets when we've talked about that scripture before in the past, that's not good and then number four I'm going to be ready so that when someone asks me why. Why do you have hope how can you continue on when life is rough and just rough-and-tumble out here I'm ready to share that hope. I have hope that this this is temporary. And one day the Lord will return and I'm going to spend eternity with God. That's my idea of true pure eschatology no fear mongering. No you know the end is near kind of you know that's not gentleness that's not preaching with gentleness. Now there is a place in a time for going out in the streets there is a time and a place for going to Pride, and showing love now if you're out side of Pride and you're yelling all of you are centers that are going to hell change the way you are and, and be like me listen there's no gentleness and love in those statements.

Pastor Newms:

[20:20] Not even going that far not saying change straight up just saying because of who you are you are going to burn in hell no.

Pastor Bill:

[20:30] I was trying to be gracious but yes one though. That we had the problem with he did not say change he didn't offer that option he didn't offer that at all he just said you're all going to hell and this is why, and never actually preach the gospel the whole time he was there.

Pastor Newms:

[20:49] And that that's an even worse key.

Pastor Bill:

[20:54] He was preaching anti gospel the whole time that he was their pride while we were there in Pride on the inside trying to tell people that we love you and God loves you and if you'll come to God, he won't turn you away for who and how you are right now you won't get won't turn you away. Bright and so yes it's all about love you have faith, you express hope and you live out love. Faith hope and love so that's what that was my Five Points again were, be quiet mind your own business I know he's Newms laughing every time I say business because it sounds so silly but that's the way I actually say that like in my normal life like every time I get to the word business it always comes out as bidness because I think it's fun to say it though way, right or wrong I don't I don't know I never to be a doer of the word number three be eager to do good works and number four be ready, to share hope we are big proponents of friendship evangelism at the occlusion house and the Berean Manifesto and, these this will get you prepared and into those friendships. Where people will trust you to ask you what's different about you I know that, I know you filed for bankruptcy I know you've had that car repo'd I know you you've got this problem and then you've got that problem and I've seen you persevere through all of it and you've still got the smile on your face and you're still Rising on top of all of it you got to let me know how you're doing this because, I know it ain't crack cocaine and I know it ain't you know, 40s of every alcohol you can get off the because I know you're not like that so you gotta tell me what is it that you're doing here that's different than what I'm doing, that's when you share the hope now at the same time we've talked about you shouldn't be ashamed of being a Christian. People should just know that she just know that he is a Christian, not that that separates you I mean Newms you've balanced being a Christian and working in the tech world for your whole career. Take you to a point where people are well for your whole career you've balanced it.

Pastor Newms:

[23:30] I'm not I mean it hasn't always been intact but yeah.

Pastor Bill:

[23:34] Okay I'll give you that that caveat on what I said I got that um and he's balanced set to the point where people will say things like well okay well let's talk about Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut they knew you didn't work on Sundays.

Pastor Newms:

[23:49] Yep.

Pastor Bill:

[23:50] Why doesn't he work on Sundays oh you know because he's a Christian oh. So would you don't schedule him on Sundays yeah but isn't that the guy that, listen to that kind of music and hangs out with those kind of people always seen and he talks like the rest of us and he looks like the rest of us he sounds like the rest of us he saves his all the same struggles that we do, buddy values that day off wasn't hiding that he was a Christian. Very wasn't in their face shoving it in their face either and then he officiated the wedding of two of his coworkers. They know they know.

Pastor Newms:

[24:37] Even my current, you know I said I stated you someone sent me an email and I was like sorry I didn't see that till Monday morning because I don't check anything on Sundays because to me Sundays are my Sabbath, and that's the day I chose not everyone said with his Sunday of course but that's my Sabbath so I don't work, and it's also one of those things where it's like okay I, handle certain things differently you know I make sure to. Do certain things I don't partake in certain aspects yeah I. Like you mentioned values are values what my what my beliefs are are my beliefs so there are certain things that I view. As important that others don't you know there's the aspects of you know. How I talk how I act how I look often those types of things people are like well you don't look I had someone tell me you don't look like you'd be the pastor or church and I was like well my church isn't trying to reach the same type of people, that you are the people that I tend to reach out to our people who for me I still look very much different than those people. You know that's something that's always kind of humorous to me is when. You know there's the situation of people are like well you don't look you don't sound or look different than the world, well I don't look or sound different than the people that are around you I look and sound very different from the people that I'm ministering to, and I am separated from them in different ways back when I was more heavy in like the Pizza Hut world and situations like that there were times of. You know people would ask me questions and I'm like look this is this is what's going on you know this is why or this is what and you know things like that. And it is different.

Pastor Bill:

[27:23] All right so does anybody in chat have anything they want to add to this conversation or. Because that's pretty much the bulk of what we have for tonight like I said we're going to try something a little different so now we will do the getting to know the pastor's and all that stuff so. Yeah we good.

Pastor Newms:

[27:51] Yeah they won't have anything else to add I just think I think it's important so we actually had this conversation yesterday, in our family bible study we're studying Daniel which is you know very end times when she get to the second half of it, and I was talking about talking to people about the. One of the family members brought up how. Friendship evangelism without using that term because they were just explaining what they were trying to do is so important and it was it was an interesting. Thing to see in conversation to have about you know it's kind of like oh well you know well that is, what we're talking about you know because it is so important when you look at it from a standpoint of needing. To have that relationship before you can just. Speak into people's lives because so often especially in today's society we have a bunch of people who understand. Or feel like they understand which is a better way of saying that Christianity they think they know everything about Christianity because they've got, an uncle or a cousin or a family member or someone that has spoken into their lives through Christianity, and it's it's very much like okay, yep but have you thought about this or but have you thought about because the relationship is what is most important about Christianity so we take that out of our ministry, it's a problem when we when we want to act like the Christianity. Isn't a relationship that's when we enter the area of it being a set of rules which is not the Christianity that you should be following Christianity is not a set of.

Pastor Bill:

[30:06] Christian you that Christ set up. If it was a set of rules he could have very easily just said hey I'm the Messiah I'm going to take over the Sanhedrin now here's what we're going to do and if kid you know if you get off of this track then you're wrong he could have easily done that but that's not what he did he gathered, small group of people around him and built a relationship and then he said hey now you guys go out and all the world and create relationships. I use that word disciple we talked about disciple isn't just hey here's the truth. Go for it no disciple is building a relationship and then being there as they walk forward in. What they understand to be the gospel and so yeah.

Pastor Newms:

[30:57] I think that's what's so important so often.

Pastor Bill:

[31:02] Deed.

Pastor Newms:

[31:04] Is that aspect.

Pastor Bill:

[31:08] All right well this podcast comes out every week on Wednesdays except we may or may not have an episode next week you'll have to tune in to find out this Wednesday, this episode will come out but you've probably already know that because you're probably listening to it unless you're watching us live, so yeah we record this this podcast on Sunday nights, around 6:30 p.m. Central Standard Time if you want to join us on Twitch, Facebook, or YouTube and you can catch us live and participate via chat in the conversation and be a, of what we talked about and contribute any ideas that you have, questions that you have things that you want to say about the topic that you think maybe we're not covering if you would like, to be a guest on the show maybe I don't know I've been seeing a few people on Tik-Tok that are in the same vein of, kind of the same way that we think, that I have thought about reaching out to just be a one-time guest or didn't know there was that one guy that I was like you know I want this guy to join us and he won't respond to any of my messages and so. I guess that's not gonna happen and then yeah so there's that but you can go to our website ekk.house and you can find out which twitch we are on live and you can find out which Facebook and which YouTube channel to go to to to participate live, and hopefully we will see you in the chat one of these Sundays be looking out for when we're going to be doing our Halloween hang out where we're going to talk about, Halloween and how old's that works and what too. Do with Halloween because a lot of users don't even know what what are we what are we supposed to do with this. Event and so we'll talk about those things possibly sometime this week, and then you can come and watch Newms and I play games if we play games and and broadcast that live on Newms has twitch which you can find on ekk.house, which twitch Okay well I love you guys have a great week

Pastor Newms:
